Good Friday Appeal 2012

Funds raised from the 2012 Good Friday Appeal will fund research and equipment for the new Royal Children's Hospital. This year, funds will be used towards the purchase of highly sophisticated imaging equipment:
Known as M R PET, (Magnetic Resonance Positron Emission Tomography) this equipment has a big name, a big task to perform and a big price tag. It will provide a greatly improved imaging process for patients who have cancer, neurological conditions and many other diseases or disorders. Costing around $8 million, MR PET will enhance accuracy in results, ensure a more precise diagnosis and improve patient outcomes. It will be the first of its kind in Australia and one of the first in a paediatric hospital in the world – again keeping our hospital at the forefront of medical care.

The RCH Pied Pipers are currently “gearing up” for April 6 2012 – the 81st Anniversary of the Good Friday Appeal and the Pied Pipers 43rd year of participation.

At the moment we are finalising our Secondary Schools and Colleges who participate with us in house-to-house collections. This involves the whole school community – Students, Parents and Teachers – and many Pied Pipers Volunteers.

We also run 10 Intersection Collections on Good Friday at major Intersections around Melbourne. Intersection collectors must be mainly over 18 years old, as there are strict rules pertaining to collectors – “Collection Supervisor" is to be over 18 years of age. and shall not supervise more than 3 collectors less than 18 years of age. No collector shall be under 16 years of age”.

We also run our "Kid's Day Out" Marquee at Etihad Stadium- including face painting, tile painting, mini raffles, lucky dips, etc.

Many months of planning and work prior to Good Friday ensures that buses, cars, food for lunches, radio equipment and other necessities required for the smooth running of the day, are donated.

Food, raffles/ merchandise, equipment and services on the day are kindly donated by many companies. The RCH Pied Pipers would like to acknowledge companies who have donated their products and services to help make this event possible. If your company is interested in donating products or services in the future, please Contact Us.
