Special Event: RCH Pied Pipers 40th Good Friday Appeal Anniversary
Where: Tower Hotel, Hawthorn East
When: Sunday July 12 2009
In June, 1969 a group of like-minded young men and women gathered to meet at the Tower Hotel in East Hawthorn to attempt to form a group to support the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal – not just on Good Friday – but all year round.
Thus the RCH Pied Pipers was formed, with a target of raising $1,000 in their first year – and they did. This year on our 40th Good Friday Appeal the total raised by the RCH Pied Pipers reached $5.3 million!
We though that this was well worth celebrating – so we journeyed back to the Tower Hotel Function Room on July 12 for a Sunday Lunch, joined by many of the original Members and others who have joined during the pursuing years, plus our Good Friday Appeal friends and our Ambassador – Lina Caneva (Russell Mark was competing in Brisbane in his quest for inclusion in the 2012 Olympic Team).
It was a day of memories, laughs, and reunion with old friends. Our current Committee still includes several of the original Members, but we have the benefit of an enthusiastic group of younger people included on our 2010 Committee to assist in going forward towards the next decade!
As always…..we invite you to join us! Please also refer to our History Page for an overview of the RCH Pied Pipers and a ‘blast from the past’ photo gallery. We look forward to hearing from you.
